From the President’s Desk

Welcome to our first newsletter. So many of our customers have asked us for more information about our products and for the rationale behind our formulations that we decided to publish from time to time to keep you informed. We will use this forum to inform you about new products, product improvements, reasons behind formulation choices, etc. We will also profile products that we believe you will find useful in your practices to aid those in need of nutritional support.

Since one of the main functions of any newsletter is product information we will begin this issue by profiling three new products that we now have in stock but are not in the catalog yet. Following this we will attempt to answer the many inquiries we have received regarding the use of raw lyophilized (freeze-dried) gland concentrates in many of our products. Finally, we will profile products with special deals for the period.

What’s New ?

Rocky Fork Formulas, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of three new products to our line. These new products are the result of numerous requests from health care professionals.

The first of these new products is Emulsified A High Concentrate. Emulsified A High Concentrate is a highly concentrated liquid vitamin A in a squeezable dropper bottle. Each drop of this product contains 25,000 IU of emulsified vitamin A as well as 1 IU of vitamin E as a preservative. The product is emulsified to make it micro-dispersible. This emulsification and the resultant water solubility create a situation whereby a large dose of vitamin A can be utilized by the body without the toxicity and liver congestion concerns usually associated with mega-doses of fat-soluble vitamin A.

Green Tea Extract – This product is decaffeinated and contains a minimum of 87% polyphenols (60% catechins and 27% other polyphenols). Each capsule contains 100 mg ofGreen Tea Extract in a base of Citrus Bioflavanoids. A great deal of research has been published on Green Tea and the unique polyphenols in the catechin family it contains. Catechins are extremely potent anti-oxidants. The catechins contained in Green Tea include gallocatechin (GC), epicatechin (EC), epicatechin gallate (ECg), and epigallocatechin (EGC) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg). EGCg is, according to published studies, responsible for Green Tea’s reputation as an excellent preventative against arterial damage and subsequent plaquing caused by free radicals. Green Tea has been shown to reduce total cholesterol and improve the HDL to LDL ratio. Studies on Green Tea also assert that EGCg is effective in reducing the occurrence of thrombi by reducing platelet aggregation. Japanese research also asserts that Green Tea is important in the prevention of cancer. Green Tea research indicates that catechins prevent the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines and combats the effects of other mutagens like aflatoxin. It has been claimed that Green Tea is useful in combating the effects on the brain and nervous system of the so-called excitotoxins.

MSM -Scientists and physicians have been researching DMSO and related compounds for more than 35 years. MSM, shorthand for methyl sulfonyl methane is one of those related compounds. This compound has all of the beneficial effects of DMSO without the drawbacks. MSM will not leave the characteristic taste of oysters in the mouth and garlic smell on the breath like DMSO. MSM is not a liquid like DMSO, but a crystalline powder. Like DMSO, MSM penetrates cell membranes easily but since MSM is not a liquid solvent potentially harmful substances do not dissolve in it. Research indicates that much of the DMSO taken into the body is converted to MSM and it is MSM that is the substance responsible for the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of the topical and internal consumption of DMSO. This makes it ideal for use in conditions like athletic injuries, fibromyalgia, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and many other inflammatory conditions. MSM clearly has advantages over DMSO and is now readily available. Besides the properties mentioned above, research shows that regular usage may help alleviate symptoms of Gastro-Esopageal Reflux Disease, asthma, scarring, interstitial cystitis and others. MSM has also been shown to help in having softer skin and stronger nails.

About Gland Concentrates

Many of you have asked why we use lyophilized gland concentrates in many of our products. There can be no doubt that gland concentrates have value in correcting the function of hyper- or hypo-active glands. They have been used successfully by holistically minded physicians for about a century in extract form and were used by folk healers in raw or cooked organ meat form far back into antiquity. There are different viewpoints on WHY they work. One theory suggests that all the necessary genetic and nutritional support the affected gland needs to repair the gland and restore its proper function are contained in the gland concentrate. This is in essence the "like cures like" philosophy. Glands are rich in nutrients, minerals, enzymes and co-enzymes. Another theory expresses the idea that gland dysfunction is caused by antibody attack on the malfunctioning organ. The consumption of gland concentrates and extracts tend to neutralize these attacks, probably by acting as decoy. This allows the organ to repair itself and resume normal function. Current research seems to tip the scales in favor of the latter theory but the former also seems to have some value. The truth probably lies somewhere in between. The bottom line is that gland concentrates have a normalizing effect. Our philosophy has been to combine raw gland concentrates with herbs, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that provide support to the specific gland or glands that are being targeted. We use lyophilized glands because we believe that the use of the whole gland is necessary for proper nutritional support and to eliminate the possibility of residue from the extraction process. Lyophilization removes the water from the gland stabilizing it and allowing it to be powdered and put into capsule form or punched into tablets.

Recent Telephone Trouble

Many of you may have had trouble contacting us recently. Unfortunately, a long distance carrier somehow, and for reasons that are still unknown, programmed many areas of the country out of range for receiving toll-free calls. This was not realized for nearly 3 weeks! While no adequate explanation has yet been received from the carrier, the problem has been solved and we can again receive calls from all of you. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience you may have suffered. If you are one of the people who tried to call and were informed by a recording that calls could not be made from your area, please call us and let us know. We have also recently become aware that our toll-free numbers are not listed in the toll-free directory services. Our carrier informs us that this should be corrected by the time you read this.
